The evening primrose is a well known plant, with many medicinal and culinary uses. Traditional uses included the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), rheumatoid arthritis, dermatitis and mastalgia. It is also used in cosmetics as a skin softener and to restore health to brittle hair and nails.

The active constituent in evening primrose seed contains one of the highest sources of GLA. This essential fatty acid is found in many important areas of the body including breast milk and the brain.

The crushed seeds are versatile and can also be cooked in spiced baked goods or roasted in the oven or even sprinkled as an alternative to black pepper. Evening primrose is a unique plant in that the flower opens in the evening and withers during the day. The seed contains a variety of beneficial amino acids including lysine, proline, aspartic acid, tyrosine, glycine, leucine, glutamic acid and serine.

Brewing Instructions if used in tea:

Use a quality tea strainer and filtered water if possible to ensure a superior cup of tea. Place 1/2 - 1 teaspoon in 250ml of hot water (95 degrees Celsius) for 10 minutes. Strain and enjoy.
